This is Lithe or Jillian Michael's Who?

Wow! Just wow! When I went to fithiphealthy.com to get my daily fix today, let's just say my jaw dropped. ( For newbies, that is Lauren's blog from Lithe Method)

I was so happy to see Philly Mag showing off America's next top trainer. I mean once she makes it national, America will be saying, Jillian Michaels, who?

Lithe is what gave the physical activity part of my getting healthy. And, being the social media person I am, I found about it through facebook when I friended Lauren after not seeing her for about a decade. When went to high school together but were in different grades and I think had a chem class together a one point.

But, one day I saw her status update about being in Vogue and I was like what- that is pretty hot. I thought I was cool for just meeting Matt Damon and bowling with Obama but being in Vogue is pretty damn awesome. Like any interested person, I clicked on the link- and my life changed.

I learned about Lithe, google it, found the website, and read about immersion.

Two months later when I decided to take the sabbatical and write this blog, I emailed Lauren to see if there was a spot in Immersion and changed my plan from a month of Bikram ( and writing about each pose on a different day), to Lithe.

It was slightly weird to think of getting in shape in a different city at place owned by someone from high school. But, the weirdness melted away after my first steps into the studio. I knew I found the place where I could get healthy and I was quite proud that someone from my hometown created the most effective new workout in America.

What I love about Lithe is that its body positive without coming from a slant. It's not the Kate Harding "We need to be proud to be fat" or the Kate Moss wanna be sticks. It's simply love your body, treat it well through exercise and healthy eating, have fun- like drink on the weekends and enjoy good foods, wear fun clothes, and oh, treat the earth well, too. It's sustainability for the body and the planet.

I am so proud that Lauren is able to show off what her work out system has done for her body and for countless women and men in Philajersey. I can't wait till she is national and I can say I trained with her!

So, buy a copy of Philly Mag in July and if you are in Philly- just sign for July Immersion- you'll love it.

  2. She looks crazy amazing!! Women personified! OMG, for a minute I wasn't sure if it was her. I mean I can see it is...but I was shocked. She is fearless.

Her fabulously curvy body brings up an interesting conversation I had with some guys in my group here (yep, crazy body hate is all the way in South Korea). There is one girl in the program who I am sorta worried about (although I just met her like 3 days ago) because she is visibly underweight and does not eat at meals. She also happens to be my roommate during orientation so we have talked a bit and she mentioned she had just lost 18 pounds because of a breakup. So, even she knows she is emaciated (she's like 5'11" so she was already really thin, but now it is frightening) and mentioned that her parents were so worried before she came. She is working to eat and get her strength back post-breakup.
However, the guys have been calling her "super hot" as much as they can (we won't even talk about how inappropriate that is since we are here working). She finds it strange and mentioned it at the bar the other night. Then they said she was crazy and didn't need to gain anything....then went on to call Britney Spears a obese cow now that she gained weight. Ok, now Ms. Spears may be a lot of things but she has almost never (with the exception of pre and post baby) been OBESE!
Myself and several women at the table commented and they didn't change their minds but they did SHUT UP!

Why are body perceptions so jacked up! This girl is at her most unhealthy point and knows it, yet men are thinking she has never looked so good! I mean her clothes are falling off of her already lean frame (she was a cross country runner) and they are encouraging her current state. if she had an actual eating disorder this could be dangerous!

THANK GOD there was one lone man (who to his credit is also a lot older than the other "men") and questioned the others about why they would put down a woman for looking womanly (i.e. Spears)? He began to probe his fellow Y-chromosomers about when they think being curvy became synonymous with being fat and ugly! They said nothing...except the occasional, "I just like what I like!"

Very interesting....this is going to be a LONG summer!
